TVA’s Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Athens, Alabama Cited For Safety Issues
The Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Athens, Alabama as been issued what is called a 'red finding'. With all the problems in Japan at the nuclear power plant, many people are concerned about the nuclear power plants here in the United States. Now the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued this finding, what does it mean?
A 'red finding' means that they found problems that they feel are of high safety significance. When the words, "high safety significance' are linked with a nuclear power plant, that is a scary thought. Many people are very concerned about potential problems at these facilities.
As reported by WBIR, the TVA has stated that the problem has been fixed. They also said it was never a safety threat. Talk about two sides of the same coin. Who is right in this case? Was there a potential problem at the Browns Ferry Nuclear plant that might have been catastrophic?
