Your parents say they couldn't bear to lose their independence. Their hearts are set on staying in their own home for the rest of their days. And you understand. It's what you'd like for them too. But they're not as young as they used to be. Not as strong and on top of things. And you can't help wondering if their plan is really wise, or even feasible. So you worry. The question of what's best for mom and/or dad is one that bedevils many children with aging parents, says Dr. David Reuben, chief of the geriatrics division in UCLA's Department of Medicine. "One of the things older people want most is to stay in their own homes. But there's always a tension between autonomy and safety. Children may want to err on the side of safety, but parents may want to err on the side of autonomy."

It has become known as the silent epidemic. Lead poisoning affects three to four million young children - one in six under age the age if six. What is more is that many parents are unaware that his or her child has lead poisoning unless the child is tested for it or until it is too late. Large amounts of lead in a child's blood can cause brain damage, mental retardation, behavior problems, anemia, liver and kidney damage, hearing loss, hyperactivity, developmental delays, other physical and mental problems, and in extreme cases, death. Where does lead come from?

Washington (CNN) -- Could trucks almost as large as Boeing 737s be driving on a highway near you? If a new transportation bill proposed by House Republicans passes, the answer is yes, and the safety ramifications would be astronomical, say congressional opponents of the bill and the AAA Auto Club. The American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act introduced Tuesday by Republicans would authorize about $260 billion over five years to fund federal highway programs. The legislation also contains a controversial provision allowing bigger tractor-trailer trucks on highways by increasing the federal weight limit from 80,000 pounds to 97,000 pounds. In some cases, it would allow 126,000-pound trucks onto highways.
