School Bus Drivers Speak Out About Safety

School bus drivers with Durham School Services in Hayward and Livermore, Calif., joined today with Teamster, political, religious and other community leaders at a "Driver Speak Out" to demand better working conditions."Every day these hardworking drivers transport our children to school, providing a vital service for our communities. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. It's time that they are heard by this company," said Rome Aloise, President of Teamsters Joint Council 7 and International Vice President. Several school bus drivers from the Hayward and Livermore Durham locations spoke out about poor working conditions at the company.

Emerson student dies in fall from building

A popular Emerson College film student fell to his death yesterday from the roof of a Roxbury apartment building, where he was working on a school project, the president of the college said in a statement. Justin Amorratanasuchad, 21, a junior film production major from Seattle, died from injuries after falling from a four-story building on Columbus Avenue, the college president, Jacqueline Liebergott, wrote in an e-mail sent to Emerson students and faculty and forwarded to the Globe. “We wish to express our deepest sympathies to all who knew and loved Justin,’’ Liebergott wrote. “A service to remember and celebrate Justin’s life will be organized at an appropriate time, about which more details will be forthcoming.’’...

Georgetown school evacuated after roof collapse

GEORGETOWN, Mass. -- A partial roof collapse at the Perley Elementary School in Georgetown, Mass. sent students to the nearby high school on Thursday. The collapse happened in the first grade part of the building, but the debris landed in the attic and did not go through to a classroom. “I was in class and I heard a big noise in my classroom and so I had to leave the school right away,” said Chloe Ciano, a first grader. Ciano and about 100 other classmates were quickly evacuated out of precaution. They were taken to the high school nearby, where they were picked up by relieved parents who also saw the gaping hole in the school. “Wow, wow. That’s incredible,” said Edward Dullea, parent. ...
