If you’re going backcountry trekking or skiing this winter, make sure to put
safety gear in your
backpack to help in case of an avalanche. Before going out, read a
guide book
on avalanche
awareness. You’ll need an avalanche
breathing apparatus and a sturdy digital/analog
avalanche beacon. A good
incline meter to measure slopes and heights can help you assess avalanche probabilities. Pack in a
good probe and
shovel, and don’t forget your
safety glasses.
