Safety Issues and the 10th Anniversary of 9-11 attack of the World Trade Center

There are memorials going up all over the country to memorialize that infamous Day. I bow to the brave American victims, soldiers and their families in prayer and honor. However, I am not a part of a committee to build a another granite memorial. I believe that Ground Zero is the only Memorial that is needed for us to realize that we are a nation perceived by some as their terrorist, and not their keeper. I believe that Ground Zero should memorialize that Corporate America goes through a great expense and media spin to have us continue to underwrite their aggressions to take over the world and suppress other cultures. To build yet another Brick and Mortar icon is as out of touch with today’s reality as the Corporations with Brick and Mortar stores that ignored the importance and relevance which their virtual store presents for the Internet. Those companies who did not recognize this are now gone, i.e. Blockbuster, Tweeter, Tower Records, etc. I could go on and on.

I do not understand how we justify spending 700 million dollars on a granite memorial but deny benefits to the first responders and all the others who are suffering physically and financially from this disaster. Let me suggest that spending the time and moneys to build brick and mortar memorials for those affected by the 9-11 World Trade Center building’s destruction,will only slows us down, even as it blocks our enlightenment from having the long shadow of the World Trade Center removed from our continued focus. The terrorists, who ever they were, attacked The World Trade Center as a symbol of America’s reputation for greed and tyranny based on the multinational corporations which called the World Trade Center their home.

The World Trade Center building was the beacon of U.S. Corporations international success and strength. They flaunted their domination of world trade in the twin towers of the World Trade Building. The 9-11 attack was deliberately aimed at the heart of our financial communications center for the world. It has become the master domino that has caused the other domino pieces to fall. Indeed it was a successful blow to the image of U.S. World Trade domination. Ten years later we are still witnessing the dominos falling from the G-force of that Day.

This horrific act did cause a significant conscious shift and changed our society. We need to recognize it, own it, and harness the changes that we must make in our domestic and foreign policies. If we don’t wake up and recognize the mistakes of a few to control the masses of us, this country’s sovereign history and our freedoms will continue to be eroded while the people of the United States continue to be enslaved to the multinational Corporate agendas.

Why do I think that we are at a critical stage and that this tenth anniversary enshrines a historical tipping point? Let us take a look at the before and after 9-11 and thus touch on a few of the dominos that are falling…

US Response to the 9-11 attack: WAR with Iraq

Before 9-11, Safety issues were rarely discussed. After 9-11 Americans are more concerned than ever before about safety issues. Within a couple of months of the 9-11 attack our then President, George W. Bush II, rushed our youth into a war with Iraq based on false information. He claimed that “for our safety” he had to attack and find the weapons of Mass destruction that supposedly Saddam Hussein had hidden. Ten years later we have not found any weapons of mass destruction. George W. Bush used our national public safety as a political tool to help get himself reelected. He keep telling us that we were “safer” with him at the helm because he had retaliated and had won the war in Iraq swiftly, according to his aircraft carrier televised announcement. Why the American public believed that, I will never understand since the event happened while he was at the helm at the very beginning of his Presidency.

The Media showed unrelenting persistence in spinning the tales of how effective our U.S. Troops were in Iraq. We were made to feel unpatriotic if we dared question the rumors that we had won the war. We were told within the first year of the War in Iraq that the US was slated to spend Billions to rebuild Iraq. Ten years later it is not rebuilt and billions are missing. No one knows where the Billions of our tax dollars have disappeared to. Yet no one seems to be looking for it or holding any in-depth investigations about these mysterious losses either.

The American Military has had photo adds describing how we helped the fragile new Iraqi government to create a new constitution for their country to help it operate in a more democratic fashion. Now ten years later, the U.S. Media has failed to explain that the new constitution has still not yet been written; instead, but something called Iraqi By-laws were written by a multinational commission heavily influenced by the forces of multinational corporations. This commission implemented the orders of these 100 ByLaws in Iraq which now guarantees U.S. corporations’ access to Iraqi markets and other natural resources. “One man’s terrorist is another’s keeper”.

Before 9-11 a “terrorist” was not even a term used in Hollywood movies. Since 9-11 I really don’t know what the term “terrorist” means but I hear it used constantly. I remember in my Latin class in High School the quote written by Plato: “One man’s terrorist is another’s keeper”. I think this quote should be placed at Ground Zero. Since that time I have become much more conscious of the information and actions of people around me from a “terrorist vs keeper” perspective. Please, dear reader, bear with me for a moment. To know ourselves means to become aware of our destructive behavior as well as our constructive behavior as a nation, a people and indeed as a collective consciousness. Think about it. Why do we miss the long shadow of that iconic building, The World Trade Center? Perhaps because now there is a glaring light on this subject matter and some Americans are scattering to take cover from the light now that the shadow is gone, while some of us are frozen like a deer in the middle of the railroad tracks. The fast going train just runs over their remains and isn’t stopping.

Ten years later we have over 9000 young Americans dead, including the ones at the World Trade Center, with over 6 Trillion dollars of our tax dollars spent fighting for in war even though we are sure there are no weapons of mass destruction. Hasn’t the icon of the World Trade Building going up in smoke truly become a living symbolic domino of the toppling of our financial strength, civil liberties and healthcare leadership, all of which has crumbled in the past 10 years as surely as that building did? This ten year aftermath feels like a mirage…. We should be asking how do we stop this vicious cycle? How do we define our own Safety and only become involved in a war when we are actually in imminent danger?

The Patriot Act

The Patriot Act was immediately voted on and implemented within three months of the 9-11-2001 attack, supposedly for our public safety. However since 9-11 our civil liberties have been curtailed at best and constipated at worst. The Patriot Act has our banking services not just costing us more to use our own money but we are constantly stressed as to whether or not our money is any good or whether it will be there when we need it. Now we go to sleep at night wondering if our retirement fund balances are mere electronic images that won’t be there when we wake up.

Before 9-11-01 I could not conceive of a Bank, Stock Brokerage firm, or a mortgage company going out of business. In the past ten years the dominos have been falling. Banks have closed in record numbers…Before 9-11 -01 I could not have conceived of reading a nonfiction story of a Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme. After 9-11 he became the poster bandit of the decade. The length of time he was able to perpetrate such an enormous scam and the colossal scale which he was able to defraud the government and the trusting investing elite is so staggering it still reads like fiction. I was sure that the government, after the Saving and Loan disasters of the 90s, would never allow such an unsafe, ponzi scheme to ever happen AGAIN.

Cyber Attacks

Before 9-11 we only heard of cyber attacks in sci-fi novels or movies. Since 9-11 we have had multiple examples of massive security breaches and cyber attacks on everything from online banking, and online shopping to millions of e-mails. Before 9-11 was I never afraid to use my e-mail or my cell phone for fear that someone in the news media or the government would be listening in and using my conversations against me out of context. President Obama and his Chief Security advisors have announced that the threat of a cyber attacks to either our electric grid or our transportation system, while or our national government’s computer systems is the number one Safety issue this country faces on the 10th Anniversary of the horrific events of September 11, 2001.

Stuxnet and cyber attacks on Iran’s nuclear systems

The media claims that this computer virus was probably orchestrated by Israeli and American hackers. Did I say “terrorist”? No, No. that act was done in the name of our Safety, but as defined by whom?

Extremist Sections of all Religions

Before 9-11-01 I did not know about the plight of their young girls being mercilessly oppressed by their extreme Islamic patriarical heirarchy in Afganistan. Since 9-11-01 not only do I know it but I recognize it here that at home. It can be just as unsafe to be born a girl right here in America. From the excessive reports of young girls being raped and exposed to drugs in our inner cities to the polygamist in Arizona from the “extremist” section of the Later Day Saints church revealed, there is an inconvenient truth about these same kinds of atrocities which are inflicted on our teenage girls. There is still global trafficking of teenage girls from almost every corner of the world. The Moral Majority Christians and their systemic practice of limiting the education and freedom of women in their extreme interpretation of their faith do not have a free pass on this issue either.

Global epidemic of Famine and malnutrition

Before 9-11 I did not think that corporate greed would lead me to have to pull the curtain of the great OZ of corporate oppression in Agribusiness. Since 9-11-01 I’ve read in the media that the Supreme Court allows plant life to be patented so that companies like Monsanto don’t have to worry about antitrust violations. They can use the Supreme Court to back up their monopolies on pesticides, seeds that terminate and do not germinate,ie mass distribution of Genetically Modified Foods, and all of this done in the name of safety. Yet when asked for the proof of the safety of our supply, the Food and Drug Administration tells us to accept Monsanto’s marketing premise that Genetically Modified is “substantially equivalent” to organic naturally grown foods and there is no nutritional difference. In fact as President Clinton told us, rice now can be injected with vitamin A or D which will make it better than natural rice…meanwhile, safety data is controversial at best. There are no long-term nutrient deficiency studies being funded by our government which supposedly is in the business of protecting us or keeping us safe.

When I last checked, since 9-11-01 every FDA Director has either been employed by The Monsanto Corporation, including the latest pick by the Obama administration’s newly appointed FDA Director, Mr. Michael Taylor. The revolving door from many government agencies to corporate positions is several pages long, not just the FDA, as Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney have illustrated. is this “best practice” for public safety? Or is this the fabled Foxes guarding the hen house? No I am not a conspiracy theorist. These facts are in plan view to be read by everyone who is a discerning reader.

Environmental Safety Issue

Before 9-11 I did not think I had to pull the curtains on water safety due to “fracking” which is a new way of distilling natural gas from the Earth’s crust. After 9-11 I am reading about people being arrested in front of the White House for requiring more safety data to be presented to us before approving the tearing up of our Earth’s crust.
Before 9-11 I could never conceive of more Americans voting for an American Idol than turn out to vote for the US President. Before 9-11 I could not have conceived of the level of blatant racism still deeply seeded in our general public. Since 9-11-01 and nearly ten years later, even with a Black President elected into office, the majority of our U.S. Congress can’t get out of their own way, not merely because they want the provisional language of a legislated balanced, but no one can seem to a explain the irrational hostilities towards the man. There seems to be no end to the childish antics to embarrass and not work with this President to the detriment of this country’s well being. . Before 9-11 I never conceived of not trusting every news broadcast of Dan Rather. Since 9-11 I get my news from blogs rather than network news, not just because of technological advances, but because I trust them more than traditional main stream news sources. Before 9-11 I had never heard of terms like Facebook or Google now I use these words as verbs on a daily basis.

Globalization

Before 9-11-01 I associated globalization with the spread of a multinational franchises around the globe, like Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Chase bank, Standard Charter, Star Bucks, John Deer, Carlyle Group, Haliburton, United Airlines, etc.

After 9-11, “globalization” became associated with an international jobs competition for multi-national corporations, a one world currency, and NATO acting through International armies which now dictate who governs sovereign nations and for how long. Globalization has become associated with terrorist cells, Internet blogospheres exciting revolutions, nuclear weapons race, over population, G-4 networks, effect of famine, water wars, The World Bank controlling debt which allows them to control peoples, and International Monetary Fund scandals…. Wake up America, Please Wake up! I beg you!

Economic impact

Perhaps we should see the icon of the World Trade Building as an event that has opened our eyes to see from multiple viewpoints that our actions are not always constructive for ourselves nor everyone around the world. We have been terrorists and keepers depending on the perspective we apply to that judgment. Perhaps the icon of the World Trade Center crumbling down should open our eyes to a different perspective so that we can see the hopelessness the “terrorists” must have felt in order to risk perpetrating such a demonstrative act against our country. I wonder if many of the things I mention above would have been discovered had it not been for 9-11-01? Ten years has increased the tension, not decreased The media and the government says that we have not been attacked since then, but I say we are constantly under more attacks now, and with greater intensity. The economic impact of that event has continued to unravel our society, and I am afraid that if we don’t see these as safety issues we will not address them to help our children and their children to live a life of peace and safety.

Brick and Mortar Icons

Let us hope that this 10th anniversary opens our eyes and our minds to new ways to build our future. I suggest we examine our own house of cards right here in America. I suggest we redress our constitution for change and spread the words more broadly while educating more of our young on how to use their minds as virtual memorials of the proverb: One Mans terrorist is another’s keeper. I suggest we broaden our consciousness to define for ourselves the definition of Safety in every discipline of our community. Financial safety planning, Environmental safety strategies, Food, health and other substantial safety issues. We must rebuild our government to make it more responsive to the people, a government built by the diverse people of this sovereign nation.
